WMS Clubs

WMS provides students the opportunity to join extracurricular clubs before and after school. These clubs are a great place to meet new people, connect with others who share your interests, and/or discover a new hobby. We encourage you to join!

Student Council

The Wilmington Middle School Student Council gives students a hands-on experience with democratic government as they represent their peers and take responsibility for class fundraising and activities within the school. Students in all grade levels may participate. The student body elects its officers and student representatives in the fall of each year.

Scholastic Bowl

Scholastic Bowl is a fun, fast-paced quiz competition for students at WMS. If you enjoy Jeopardy or other trivia games, you should consider participating in this activity. During club meetings, we learn trivia facts and test one another on our knowledge to prepare for competitions against other schools.

Spelling Team

Spelling Team is a group of students who compete against one another to win a position in representing WMS at  regional and conference level spelling bees. Practice begins in December for the first competition held in February.

Science Club

Science Club is an interactive, hands-on club where we work on complex scientific experiments. Our past projects include building and launching multistage rockets, constructing and racing mousetrap race cars, and designing and creating small scale roller coasters. We host several star parties every year, where we set up telescopes and view various objects in the night sky. Science Club is ongoing throughout the school year and continues from year to year.

Math Team 6th, 7th & 8th Grade

This team is for students interested in solving math problems. We meet weekly starting in October and participate in two competitions—Momence Competition and IVC competition.

Speech Team

Members of the WMS Speech Team are people who like to talk in front of others. Team members attend a once-a-week practice session with Mrs. Papineau. Students memorize speeches within the first two weeks in order to be able to practice blocking (moving), facial expressions, and gestures. We participate in the state speech contest in November. The contest is always on a Saturday.

Aerospace Team

This team is for 7th and 8th grade students interested in simulating an actual space mission to Mars. Aerospace team meets one to two times weekly from October through March. There is an application process to be chosen for this team. Chosen students are part of various mission specialist teams. The program provides students with the authentic encounter in science, math, technology, and team building skills.

WMS National Beta Club

This club is an honor/service organization for 7th and 8th grade students. These students must meet certain academic and leadership requirements for membership. There is a fall induction each year. Beta Club sub-committees organize events and community service projects throughout the whole school year.
